Pat Benatar: All Fired Up

This playlist was inspired by Pat Benatar's memoir “Between A Heart And A Rock Place.” This playlist is made up of some of the best rockers of the 80s.

Growing up and living in San Diego for most of my life, I had the fortunate opportunity of living close to a massive concert scene. Whether the concerts I saw were in San Diego or two hours north in Los Angeles.

I never really had a great memory when it came to school, but man, oh man, do I have a great memory when it comes to music, movies and pop culture. I can remember every concert I've ever been to.

I still have all my paper tickets stubs, which don't exist anymore, (thanks technology) so I can go back and look at them and they remind me of all the concerts that I've been to.

I miss concerts. I believe the Apex of concertgoers was anyone born in the 60s or the 70s. That was the era of being able to see the monsters of rock. You were able to see the best of the best in their primes.

Since I was born in 1981, it was difficult to see bands of the 70s and 80s and their prime, but luckily enough that didn't stop me from seeing them in the late 90s going into the 2000s when they were constantly having reunion tours or performing at large festivals.

I believe the younger generations will never be able to fully appreciate music for what it was. Being born in the 80s, that was the last generation of affordable concerts. I feel bad for younger people that have to cough up so much money to see their favorite musicians in concert for whom I got to see at fractions of the cost back in the day.

Other than Pat Benatar, which I saw in concert in the early 2000s, many of the musicians on this playlist are also artists that I saw in concert. Pat Benatar along with her husband Neil Giraldo definitely rocked the house. Though she was not in her prime, she was still a forced to be reckoned with.

I was lucky enough to have seen Def Leppard twice. Once at the Universal amphitheater in Hollywood and the second time at the Grove in Anaheim, where Brian Adams opened the show.

Billy Idol. Man, oh man, Billy! I've seen Billy Idol in concert four times. He's truly one of the greats. Him with Steve Stevens is the ultimate pair of singer and  guitarist relationship. Just like Pat Benatar and her husband Neil Giraldo.

One of these days, I'm gonna have to go back and look at all my ticket stubs, and make a playlist based on all the concerts that I've seen. A lot of my friends say that I was born in the wrong era. I should've been born ten years earlier so, I could've lived the MTV generation at the right age.

Just like a John Hughes movie, I wish I would've graduated high school in 1984.
