Belinda Carlisle: Lady Bangers
The day before I begun to read “Lips Unsealed” I was watching a movie from the 80s with Corey Feldman and Corey Haim called “License To Drive.” Do you remember this gem?
“License To Drive” was one of my favorite movies growing up as a child and it’s still an absolutely hilarious movie, today.
There is a scene in “License To Drive” where Les (Cory Haim) takes Mercedes (Heather, Graham) on a first date to a nightclub. When Les pulls his car up to the valet out front, you can hear Belinda Carlisle’s song “I Feel Free” being played inside the club.
I can't quite remember the circumstances behind how I saw “License To Drive” for the very first time. It was either a video rental from Sam Goody or it was on HBO. I do remember that it was not on a cable network because the movie was not edited down, and there were no commercials.
The song I remember most about the movie is Belinda Carlisle’s “I Feel Free.” I didn't know at the time that the song was by was Belinda Carlisle. I found out it was her years later, but the song was always cemented in my head.
Throughout my life, I've always been a fan of pop culture. Using pop culture in my life has always led to important memories of growing up in the 80s. Memories of where I was at the time, what I was doing at the time and who I was with.
This playlist is made up of songs that have given me a lot of important memories from the 80s. These are all songs that I either listened to on records, were in movies or I watched on MTV as a child. All these songs are of great significance to me as a child. To me these are the great Lady Bangers of the 80s.
