Questlove's Mo' Meta Funk

This playlist was inspired by Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson's "Mo’ Meta Blues The World According To Questlove”

This playlist is a memory of Questlove’s childhood growing up in the 1970s. These were musicians, albums, and records that Questlove and his family listened to when he was a child.

Questlove said when he was young, starting around the age of three years old he had a small 45 record player in his playpen and would listen to all of his parents records to keep himself occupied.

During his childhood he didn't have many toys to play with, but what he did have were hundreds and hundreds of records at his disposal. His favorite thing to do was looking at the album covers. The 70s definitely had the best album covers.

Coming out of the 1960s, we had Curtis Mayfield, Stevie Wonder, James Brown, and Sly & The Family Stone bringing the sound of soul and rhythm and blues and morphing it into funk for a new generation. A new sound with new technology to bring heavier bass lines and dance rhythms.

Funk music spawned great pioneers, such as George Clinton of Parliament, Lionel Richie of the Commodores and Bootsy Collins to help pave the way for a new era of black music.

This is funk music in its purist form the golden age of funk. The Apex mountain of funk music was during the 1970s.
