The Piano Man
This playlist was inspired by Elton John’s autobiography, Me.
At the end of summer in 2022 my wife and I were about to prepare to travel from Taiwan to America to spend three months in my home of San Diego, California. Little did we know that this trip would turn into being a vacation and fate would bring us to see Elton John live in concert.
On September 1, we were staying at a typical airport hotel in Taipei. We arrived at the hotel the day before our flight because we had an early 9:30 a.m. flight and wanted to be as close to the airport as possible. After dinner. My wife and I went down to the hotel bar to have a few drinks.
The bar was playing new music and a new music video to a remix of an Elton John song. I would later find out it was a song with Dua Lipa called “Cold Heart.” The next day after we arrived in San Diego, my wife and I were driving from the airport to my San Diego home when we ended up hearing the same Elton John song on the radio. We both kinda looked at each other and said “huh”, we just heard this song the night before we left Taiwan and now we're hearing it again a day later.
Then a few days after that a friend of mine back in Taiwan sent me a link to this same Elton John song that my wife and I have heard twice before. So that's three times in one week that this new Elton John song has popped up into our orbit.
Fast forward, two months and my wife and I are visiting friends in Seattle, Washington. One morning, I woke up and I found Facebook ads promoting Elton John live in Los Angeles at Dodger Stadium.
I was completely surprised to know that Elton John was currently on tour. I had no idea. Within a few minutes and not even really thinking about it, I ordered two tickets. I came out for breakfast and told my wife about the Elton John tickets that I had just recently purchased.
The concert was going to be in 10 days so we had just a few days to drive from Seattle back down to San Diego, which we did in about five days. We just had a few days to spare before the concert. Come to find out that fate was waiting for us to see this concert.
