Hippy Turtle

A collection of 50's and 60's music inspired by the great Quincy Jones’ autobiography, Q.

There is a whole other world of Quincy that extends from the late 40’s where he learned how to play the trumpet at 13 years old. Later he pretty much learned most of the instruments you hear when you listen to music he worked on. Oh. And watching him write music the way the rest of us write English sentences is truly amazing.

Imagine working with all the greatest musicians during the 20th century. Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra, Lesley Gore, Count Basie, Dinah Washington, Duke Ellington, Ray Charles, Ringo Star, Paul McCartney and Chaka Khan.

Then, you finish up with Michael Jackson. Incredible.

When Q was 13 years old he met a 16 year old Ray Charles. Q and Ray sat around talked about music and Ray taught Q how to play the piano. Imagine being a fly on the wall in that room.
